Frequently Asked Questions
How do I connect my Hue Bridge?
Open HueCommand and make sure your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Hue Bridge. The app will automatically discover nearby bridges. Tap on your bridge and press the physical link button on top of it when prompted.
Can I control my lights away from home?
Yes! HueCommand Pro includes remote access. Go to Settings > Remote Access to connect your Hue account. This uses the official Philips Hue cloud API with secure OAuth authentication.
Which Hue Bridge models are supported?
HueCommand supports Hue Bridge v2 (square shape) and later. The original round Hue Bridge (v1) is not supported as it was discontinued by Signify and lacks the CLIP v2 API.
How do I set up the Apple Watch app?
The Apple Watch companion app installs automatically when you install HueCommand on your iPhone. Make sure both devices are paired and on the same network. Your bridge connection syncs automatically.
What's included in HueCommand Pro?
Pro unlocks remote access, advanced automations, scene scheduling, and more. You can subscribe monthly, yearly, or purchase a lifetime unlock. Manage your subscription in Settings or through your Apple ID.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone > tap your name > Subscriptions > HueCommand. You can change or cancel your plan from there. Your Pro features remain active until the end of your billing period.
The app can't find my bridge
Make sure your iPhone and Hue Bridge are on the same Wi-Fi network. Try restarting your bridge by unplugging it for 10 seconds. If discovery still fails, you can enter your bridge's IP address manually in the setup screen.
How does the AI Scene Creator work?
The AI Scene Creator uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models to generate lighting scenes from natural language descriptions. Just type a mood like "warm sunset glow" or "deep ocean blues" and tap Generate. The AI runs entirely on your device — nothing is sent to the cloud. Requires iPhone with A17 Pro or M-series chip running iOS 26 or later.
Can I control my Hue lights from Apple Watch?
Yes! HueCommand includes a free Apple Watch companion app. You can see all your rooms, toggle lights on and off, and use an All Off button — all from your wrist. The Watch app syncs automatically with the iPhone app.
How do I add widgets to my Home Screen?
Long press on your Home Screen, tap the + button in the top left, search for HueCommand, and choose a Small (single room) or Medium (up to 4 rooms) widget. You can configure which rooms appear by long pressing the widget and selecting Edit Widget. Widgets require HueCommand Pro.
What is circadian rhythm lighting?
Circadian rhythm lighting automatically adjusts your lights' color temperature throughout the day based on sunrise and sunset at your location. Cool, bright light in the morning for energy, warm dim light in the evening for relaxation. HueCommand calculates solar times and applies presets automatically.
Can I connect multiple Hue Bridges?
Yes! HueCommand Pro supports multiple Hue Bridges simultaneously. Each bridge maintains its own rooms, scenes, and state. All bridges appear together in the dashboard so you can control your entire home from one place.
How do I sync my lights to music?
Go to the Effects tab, select a room with color lights, and tap Music Reactive. HueCommand uses your iPhone's microphone to detect beats and frequency bands, then maps them to light colors and brightness in real time. No Hue Sync Box needed.
Does HueCommand collect my personal data?
No. HueCommand uses privacy-first analytics via TelemetryDeck that collects only anonymous usage patterns — no personal data, no IP addresses, no device IDs. You can opt out entirely in Settings. All light control happens directly between your iPhone and your Hue Bridge.
How do I back up my Hue Bridge?
Go to Settings > Backup & Restore. HueCommand can save your entire bridge configuration including rooms, scenes, and automations. You can restore from a backup at any time. This is a HueCommand Pro feature.
How does geofencing work?
HueCommand uses Apple's CLMonitor API to create a geofence around your home. When your iPhone detects that you've arrived or left, it automatically triggers the scenes you've assigned to those events. You can set a "welcome home" scene for arrival and an "all off" action for departure. Geofencing requires "Always" location permission so iOS can monitor your position in the background. Location data is processed entirely on-device and never transmitted. This is a HueCommand Pro feature.
What is Entertainment Streaming?
Entertainment Streaming uses the Hue Bridge's Entertainment API to send light commands over DTLS (encrypted UDP) at up to 25 updates per second — far faster than the standard REST API. This enables ultra-smooth music visualization where your lights react to every beat in real time. It effectively replaces a $300+ Hue Sync Box for music sync. To use it, you need an entertainment area configured on your Hue Bridge (set this up in the official Hue app), then HueCommand will detect it and let you stream directly.
Does HueCommand work on Mac?
Yes! HueCommand includes a native macOS app that runs on any Mac with Apple silicon or Intel running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It features resizable windows, full menu bar integration, and keyboard shortcuts for common actions. Every feature from the iOS app is available on Mac — color wheel, scenes, automations, music sync, remote access, energy dashboard, bridge backup, and more. Your Hue Bridge connects over your local network just like on iPhone.
Does HueCommand work on Apple TV?
Yes! HueCommand includes a native tvOS app optimized for the Siri Remote. Browse your rooms, toggle lights, activate scenes, and adjust brightness — all from the big screen using your Apple TV remote. The focus-based interface highlights each element as you navigate. Perfect for setting the mood during movie night or controlling lights without picking up your phone. Requires Apple TV running tvOS 17.0 or later.
Does HueCommand work on Apple Vision Pro?
Yes! HueCommand includes a native visionOS app purpose-built for Apple Vision Pro. It features glass material backgrounds that blend into your environment, eye-tracking hover effects on every interactive element, and ornament-based navigation. It is not an iPad app in compatibility mode — it is a fully native spatial computing experience. Toggle lights, activate scenes, adjust colors, and more with gaze and pinch gestures.
