Track How Much Energy Your Philips Hue Lights Use
The only Hue app with a built-in energy dashboard.
Do Smart Lights Use a Lot of Electricity?
Philips Hue LED bulbs are efficient — a typical Hue White bulb uses about 9 watts, and a Hue Color bulb uses about 9.5 watts at full brightness. But if you have 20, 30, or 50+ bulbs running throughout the day, the usage adds up.
The problem is that neither the official Hue app nor most third-party Hue apps give you any visibility into how much energy your lights are actually consuming. You're left guessing.
HueCommand's Energy Dashboard
HueCommand Pro includes a dedicated energy dashboard that tracks consumption across all your Hue lights. Here's what you can see:
- Per-device wattage estimates — see how much power each individual light is drawing based on its type, brightness level, and on/off state
- Consumption trends — track how your energy usage changes over time
- Room-level breakdown — identify which rooms are using the most energy
- Usage patterns — understand when your lights are on most and where you could save
How It Works
The Philips Hue Bridge doesn't have a built-in power meter, so HueCommand estimates energy consumption using the known wattage specifications for each Hue product model combined with real-time brightness and on/off state data from your bridge.
When a light is at 50% brightness, it uses roughly 50% of its rated wattage. HueCommand tracks these states over time to build a consumption profile for your entire setup.
Why Track Smart Light Energy?
- Find energy hogs — maybe lights in a rarely-used room are being left on by automations
- Optimize automations — set lights to dim after a certain time instead of staying at full brightness
- Justify the switch to LED — see the actual savings compared to traditional bulbs
- Monitor electricity costs — with rising energy prices, every watt matters
No Other Hue App Does This
Energy tracking is unique to HueCommand. The official Hue app doesn't offer it. Neither do iConnectHue, Lightbow, hueDynamic, or HueDisco. If you want visibility into your smart lighting energy consumption, HueCommand is the only option.
