What the Watch app does
The Apple Watch app is built for the moments when your phone is not in your hand: cooking, carrying laundry, or already in bed. It focuses on one job, switching lights on and off, and keeps that fast and simple.
- Room list with status. Every room from your Hue Bridge is listed with a lit or unlit bulb icon and a count such as "2/4 on", so you can see what is still on without walking around the house.
- Whole-room on and off. Open a room and tap All On or All Off to switch every light in it at once.
- Single lights. Each light in the room has its own row showing On or Off. Tap it to toggle just that light.
- All Off for the house. An All Off button at the bottom of the room list turns off every light that is on.
The Watch app is included free. It does not need a Pro subscription.
What it does not do
To keep expectations clear, the Watch app is an on/off remote. It does not activate scenes, change brightness, or set colors. For those, use HueCommand on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or another device, or set up a Siri Shortcut on your iPhone.
How it works: your iPhone does the talking
The Watch app does not connect to the Hue Bridge by itself. When you tap a button, the watch sends the command to HueCommand on your paired iPhone, and the iPhone sends it to the bridge that owns that light or room. The iPhone then sends back the updated room list so the watch shows the new state.
That means your iPhone needs to be reachable by the watch. If it is not, the watch shows a short "iPhone not reachable" message instead of silently ignoring your tap. If the iPhone cannot find the bridge, you will see "Bridge unavailable".
The room list is synced from the iPhone. If the watch shows "No Rooms", open HueCommand on your iPhone so it can send the latest rooms over.
If you use more than one Hue Bridge, each command from the watch is routed to the bridge that the room or light belongs to.
Set up HueCommand on Apple Watch
- Install HueCommand on your iPhone from the App Store (it is listed as "Command for Philips Hue").
- Open the app on your iPhone and connect your Philips Hue Bridge.
- Install the Watch app on your Apple Watch, for example from the Watch app on your iPhone if it did not install automatically.
- Open HueCommand on your iPhone once so it sends your rooms to the watch.
- Open HueCommand on your Apple Watch, pick a room, and tap a light or All On / All Off.

- iPhone with iOS 17 or later, with HueCommand installed and connected to your bridge.

Is the Apple Watch app free?
Yes. The Watch app is included with HueCommand and does not require Pro.
Can I change brightness or activate scenes from the watch?
No. The Watch app turns rooms and individual lights on and off and has an All Off button. Use the iPhone, iPad or Mac app for scenes, brightness and color.
Does the Watch app work without my iPhone?
No. Commands are relayed through HueCommand on your paired iPhone, which talks to the Hue Bridge. If the iPhone is out of reach, the watch shows "iPhone not reachable".
Why does my watch say "No Rooms"?
The room list comes from your iPhone. Open HueCommand on the iPhone with your bridge connected so it can sync your rooms to the watch.
