Create custom Philips Hue scenes

What a Hue scene is

A scene is a saved lighting setup for a room: which lights are on, how bright they are and what color or white tone each one shows. Activate it and the room goes straight to that look.

HueCommand saves the scenes you create to your Philips Hue Bridge through the bridge's own scene API. They are stored on the bridge, not inside the app, so they're still there if you change phones or reinstall HueCommand.

Four ways to start

• Template: pick one of 25 built-in templates, grouped into Warm, Cool, Vivid, Natural and Focus. Examples include Golden Hour, Moonlight, Aurora Borealis, Neon Nights, Autumn Leaves, Reading and Night Light.
• From Photo: choose a picture from your photo library and HueCommand pulls its colors into the scene.
• Capture Current: save the room exactly as it looks right now, after you've set the lights by hand.
• Blank Scene: start from scratch.

Static and dynamic scenes

Static

A static scene sets each light to a fixed state. In the builder you can turn each light on or off and set its own brightness, and choose a color or a color temperature for it. Every time you activate the scene, the room looks the same.

Dynamic

Turn on Dynamic Scene and the bridge slowly moves the lights through a palette of colors you choose. You set:

• Palette colors: add colors from a set including red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, pink, warm white and cool white.
• Brightness for the scene, from 1 to 100 percent.
• Speed, from Very Slow to Very Fast.

Because the bridge runs the animation, a dynamic scene keeps moving after you close HueCommand. You can start and stop the motion from the scene's menu in the Scenes tab.

Preview before you save

Tap Preview in the builder and HueCommand shows the scene on your real lights for about three seconds, then puts them back the way they were. It's a quick way to check a color before you commit.

How to create a scene

1. Open HueCommand and go to the Scenes tab.
2. Tap the + button.
3. Choose the room the scene is for.
4. Pick a starting point: a template, From Photo, Capture Current or Blank Scene.
5. Adjust the lights, or switch on Dynamic Scene and set the palette and speed.
6. Tap Preview to try it on your lights.
7. Name the scene and save it.

Using your scenes

• Find them fast: the Scenes tab groups scenes by room, with a search box and an All, Dynamic and Static filter.
• Fade in: from a scene's detail page, set a transition from instant up to 10 seconds before activating it.
• Edit or delete any scene later.
• Use them elsewhere: scenes can be started from Siri and Shortcuts, a Focus, geofencing (Pro) and programmed switch buttons (Pro).
• Smart Scenes made in the official Hue app, which change through the day, show up in a separate Smart list. You create those in the official app.

What's free

Creating, editing and activating scenes is free, including dynamic scenes, photo scenes and all 25 templates. The only scene feature that requires Pro is the AI Scene Creator, which writes a scene from a text description on a device that supports Apple Intelligence, running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 or visionOS 26 or later.
